How you can help the BookCrossing 2011 Convention NOW
So the big event doesn’t happen for another seven months, but you already want to start getting involved with the 2011 BookCrossing Convention? Great! Here’s some things you can do to help us out:
- Collect and send:
- “Choose Your Own Adventure” style books and send them to the convention committee. These don’t have to be the CYOA brand name (though those are fine too).
- Items for the goodie bags or raffle.
- Books for the book buffet (especially DC-themed ones, but all are welcome)
- Visit the OBCZ at the Crystal City Sheraton Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. The hotel staff love having the shelf there, and we want to always keep it full of great books. While you’re there, stop by their cafe to grab a bite to eat.
- Spread the word via blog posts, FaceBook updates, Twitter Tweets, forum posts, and sharing via places like StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit, and more. You can link to the convention website.
How do you get these items to us? Hand it to any of the Convention Committee Members at a local meetup or event or mail them to the address below:

Thanks and have fun!
Join us at the National Book Festival!
Meet fellow BookCrossers and LibraryThingamabrarians at our annual joint gathering! We’ll be there rain or shine.
Event: National Book Festival in Washington, DC.
Date: Saturday, September 25, 2010
Time: The meeting is at 2:00 PM but some people will be attending the festival all day
Location: On the steps of the Smithsonian Natural History Museum (on the side facing the National Mall)
After the meetup we typically walk around to see the festival or break off toward author tents to hear readings/talks. Be sure to collect things that might be great giveaways at our convention!
Meetup: Bethesda, MD
On Monday, September 6 at 6pm, members from BCinDC met up at La Madeline with a wonderful BookCrosser and her friend who were visiting from Belfast, Northern Ireland. We had nice discussions and, of course, a book buffet.
BookCrossers in attendance were: fleurdelys, KateKintail, mdm139, nat4lee, and RockSolid. Write-up & photos by KateKintail.
Meetup: National Zoo
On Sunday, September 5, BookCrossers met up at the National Zoo in Washington, DC for a day of socializing and releasing. There were lots of fun moments, like the little girl who ran after us and asked for a book or the school principal who wanted to know more about BookCrossing because of the books her school library was planning to get rid of. There was even a moment where three people called out to KateKintail–having seen her name on a book label–because they wanted to know more about BookCrossing.
BookCrossers in attendance were: allbookedup (a BookCrosser who is visiting the area from Austria), KateKintail, mariocat, mdm139, melydia, and RockSolid. Among us, we managed to release more than 125 books! Write-up & photos by KateKintail
