BCinDC & the 2011 Convention

On January 26, 2013, BCinDC members met at the Noodles & Company in Rockville, MD to chat and swap books. It was a snowy day but warm inside and plenty of books to enjoy! There was even a visiting bookbox.

A new page for BookCrossing-friendly release locations in our area has been added to the website here: http://www.bcindc.zoiks.org/release-locations/. There are now pages that list the new OBCZs and Little Free Libraries. Check the listings out and give the locations a visit!

BCinDC had our annual holiday party today, December 22. authorauthor hosted the party at her house in Virginia, and there was a buffet of delicious treats as well as a buffet of books. After chatting, we played our wrap-it-up game where we choose wrapped books based entirely on their first lines. There were lots of fun ones this year!

On September 8, BCinDC lost one of our most enthusiastic and dedicated members. MaryZee was a great supporter of and advocate for BookCrossing. She arranged and managed the BookCrossing table at our local Random House bookfair. At book festivals, she was always excited to not just give books away but explain about going online to see where books had been. She maintained many OBCZs over the years as well as wonderfully themed bookboxes. She was generous with her time–helping out at our convention–and with her books–thrusting them upon her friends with detailed recommendations.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 13 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Elza Hurst officiating. Interment will follow at Baust Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

We are grateful for the time Mary chose to spend with us and the books she shared. We are glad we could call such a sweet and caring woman our friend. And everyone in BCinDC will miss her greatly.

On Saturday, January 28, 2012 BCinDC members met at the Ballston Mall food court to swap books and talk. We had so many members show up, we ended up acquiring table after table. There were some wrapped books that hadn’t made it to the holiday party, and we had fun reading the first lines & opening those. We also had a small army of members in convention shirts!

Many books found new homes with BCinDCers (and friend). Some will be wild released by BCinDCers, and some were taken to the OBCZ at the Sheraton.
