BookCrossing CEO Joins the Fundraising Efforts

We’re excited to officially announce that Bruce, BookCrossing CEO, has agreed to have dyed hair during the convention, but only if we reach the 95% spot on our donation meter!

Remember, the deadline for hair coloring donations is April 7, in order to allow people time to get their hair dyed before they begin traveling. So ask your family, friends, and other BookCrossers to donate now! If Bruce dyes his hair, you can bet we’ll be posting lots of photos of it for everyone to see.

LAST CALL for Extreme Early Bird Twilight Tour of D.C.!

Whether you can make it to the 2011 Convention or not, you’re invited to go on the Tourmobile’s Twilight Tour of D.C. on Thursday, April 14, 2011. You’ll need to claim your spot by 11:59pm EDT, March 31, 2011 if you want to join in on the extreme early bird fun!

Here’s the schedule:

  • 4:15 PM- Anyone already at the Crystal City Sheraton meets in the main lobby to travel by METRO to Union Station. All others arrive at Union Station on your own (if you need assistance getting there, see below about letting us know).
  • 5:00 PM – Dinner at Union Station in Washington, D.C. (your choice from a wide variety, at your cost)
  • 6:15 PM – Gather at the Center Cafe area of Union Station and begin picking up your tickets from the members of the Planning Team
  • 6:30 PM – You may begin boarding the Tourmobile buses parked outside of Union Station. They will not guarantee that we will get seats on the same bus. However, if we are all there boarding early we will be first in line to choose the seats that we want.
  • 7:00 PM – The Tourmobile Twilight Tour leaves Union Station (don’t miss the bus)! The tour is described as driving in the National Mall area to point out the sights that are visible and specially lit at night. In addition to what we will drive by on the bus, there will be stops at the following places:
    • Jefferson Memorial – 20 minutes
    • Franklin D Roosevelt Memorial – 25 minutes
    • Lincoln Memorial (to include Korean War Memorial and Vietnam War Memorials) – 40 minutes
    • World War II Memorial – 25 minutes

The stop times are approximate. There will be a live narrator on the bus who will exit the bus with us to further give information and interesting tidbits about the sights. The length of the tour is between 3 and 3.5 hours.

  • 10:00-10:30 PM – The Tourmobile returns to Union Station. We will escort people back to their hotels via Metro or private car as necessary.

We were able to get group pricing and the charge for participating in this event is $30 via PayPal. If you would like to purchase tickets, please email us at bcindc2011@gmail.com. Payment must be received no later than 11:59pm EDT, March 31, 2011.

Skyring’s Hair Color!

We just hit 75% a few minutes ago and are pleased to announce that Skyring will dye his hair blue for the 2011 Convention! It’s not pink, that’s true. But there’s still time to donate and add a second color at 95%; maybe that second color will be pink?

And now melydia is feeling left out, as all the rest of us have colored hair. Please donate so she can share in the excitement with *cough*green*cough* hair.

Spread the word! http://tinyurl.com/bcindcdonate

Fundraising Update!

We’re pleased to announce that KateKintail will dye her hair purple for the 2011 Convention!

There was a magnificent push for pink (nearly all donations we received over the last few days were for that color), but it wasn’t enough to get us to the 75% mark on the meter or to take over for the commanding lead purple has assumed. So there won’t be another run-off to follow, but as soon as we hit 75%, it’s Skyring’s turn to dye his hair.

Even small donations help, so ask your BookCrossing friends who can’t make it to the convention to help support BookCrossing’s 10th anniversary by donating just a little toward the color of your choice!

Everyone can also still purchase raffle tickets to win a one-of-a-kind, handmade, Ballycumber Blanket, which can be won by anyone, not just convention attendees.
